Ramping up Community Energy: what SCCALE 20-30-50 has to contribute

This summer, Energy Cities launched its brand new community energy hub with a very inspiring webinar. SCCALE 20-30-50 project coordinator, Daan Creupelandt, was joined by political leaders from two cities that were amongst the first ones to launch community energy: Mario Rajn, Mayor of Krizevci and Bob d’Haeseleer, City Councillor of Eeklo.

Through their presentations and very lively discussions with the audience, the speakers have shared how they managed to avoid the NIMBY phenomenon, how they engaged the community and “massaged” public support by focusing on more than just dividends. In this discussion, Daan Creupelandt insisted on the importance of capacity building in order to grow the Community Energy movement in Europe. After presenting how the new EU legislative framework has created a great opportunity and set up the momentum for energy communities to multiply and thrive throughout Europe, he talked about the importance of guidance for this to happen successfully. And this is exactly SCCALE 20-30-50’s mission. As Daan highlighted during the Webinar, the project is currently developing a series of guidebooks for a wide-range of actors to help ramp up community energy: a financial guide, a methodological guide, a contractual guide, a municipality guide… Stay tuned and connected to the SCCALE 20-30-50 Toolkit, as we will be releasing these guides in the next few months.
